Dr Al Cook
Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Dundee, Scotland 1989
- Cosmetic Dentistry
Dr Al Cook has been working as a general dentist for over 25 years and enjoys all aspects of working in general practice. Al and his wife moved to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in 2002 and he has been working in the Bay ever since.
Prior to moving to New Zealand, Al owned and operated his own practice in England for more than 10 years in partnership with another local Bay dentist, the Tooth Fairy’s Dr Tom Urie.
Al worked for the Tooth Fairy in Te Puke for a number of years before working at other Bay dental practices closer to home. In 2016 Al rejoined the Tooth Fairy dental team, once again teaming up with Tom at our Mount Maunganui branch.
Al enjoys all aspects of dentistry but in particular transforming smiles with composite veneers. Al believes in treating the whole patient and takes time getting to understand their individual needs believing everyone is different.
Al is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and regularly undertakes additional dental training to keep up to date with new dental products and procedural techniques.
Like most of us, Al enjoys the lifestyle offered in the Bay of Plenty and takes every opportunity to embrace the outdoors with his wife and 10 year old son, especially if it has something to do with boats and the water. Al recently developed a keen interest in stand up paddle boarding which is a far cry from his jet ski days, often referring to it as “surfing with a walking stick!”. That said, Al thoroughly recommends you give it a try if you haven’t already.
Al takes an active interest in his son’s sporting ambitions and enjoys coaching and managing his son’s school football team. As you can imagine, patience and understanding are prerequisites for this role and also essential qualities when working in general dental practice.
